Book a room

The Wharton Arms Hotel is also locally known as Skippers, after George & Rhoda Skipper, who managed The Wharton Arms from 1944-1972 and the nickname has stuck to this day.

Within The Wharton Arms, there is a Bar and a Lounge, with a Pool Table and Dart Boards as well as a Dining Room. which serves good quality food, all of which is prepared in our own Kitchen, by our highly respected Chef. There is also a separate self contained Function Room with it’s own Bar, known as Ken's Barn, as well as outside seating to the rear of the building with a small children’s play area.

We are happy to host events in the Lounge and in the Barn; anything from a Baby Shower, Wedding Reception, Birthday Party, Wake or simply Private Dining, can all be accommodated. We will also cater for your event with everything prepared in our own kitchen and we have the facilities for a DJ and Karaoke to be part of your event as you require. For more information or to enquire please email events@whartonarms.co.uk.

There are also six en-suite Bed & Breakfast letting rooms on the first floor, which you can book online using the link at the top of the page.

We have Sky Sports, which we regularly show on several TVs in the Bar and Lounge.

We are dog friendly and welcome all well behaved dogs, not only in the Bar and Lounge areas but also in the bedrooms.

The Cleveland Way, a long distance footpath, running for 100 miles from Helmsley to Filey over the North York Moors and skirting the Cleveland Hills, passes within 100 metres and makes us an ideal stopping off point. We offer luggage drop off and collection and also a secure room, to store and dry, wet boots and clothing.

The Wharton Arms Hotel was built in 1878 to replace an existing building further along the High Street and has been the local community meeting place ever since.

The majestic old landmark building in Skelton High Street has a long history of memories and bears the family name of the owners of Skelton Castle, which dates back to Domesday.
